Mr. Gerard van Tilburg is the owner of a farm in the Noordoostpolder. Since 1994 Gerard has a Lagerwey 30 / 250 kW wind turbine at 70 meters form the main farm buildings. The turbine has been upgraded in 2005 with a complete new WES electrical cabinet.
In 1992 Gerard decided to run a energy nutral farm and make a contribution to a cleaner enviroment, this was the main reason to buy the turbine. In the early days 0,06 Euro was paid back per kWh and the ROI was not very stong. But times have changed and the price for energy has increased. Last few years the price per kWh was around 0,15 Euro.
Sometimes on sunny days Gerard and his wife climb up for a clear view on the crops, they sometimes bring up coffee an enjoy the magnificent sight from 40 meters.
The energy produced is sold to the grid. The turbine is also used by WES for testing and training. Interesting detail is that the tower used for this turbine is made of concrete and was transported in one piece from Hamburg (Germany) to Bant. These days concrete is not used for towers for midsize wind turbines any more, steel is used instead.
